Watercolor poppy

I've been waiting since January for the chance to paint some poppies from my garden. This was the first purple Heirloom poppy to bloom. These are the poppies from which we get the poppy seeds to put on breads and bagels. I rushed through the drawing part, anxious to get to the beautiful color. As I worked, the whole flower turned from right facing to left facing with the stem curving in that graceful way that poppy stems do. A fuzzy yellow bee landed in the center and off on some other leaf was a lady bug. The garden is just alive with color and wonder.
